Fant picks the Hawkeyes

After narrowing his options down to five schools in recent weeks, three-star prospect Noah Fant announced his college decision this morning. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Fant committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes on local Omaha radio 1620 AM The Zone during Sharp & Benning in the Morning.

"I'm announcing my commitment to the University of Iowa," Fant told the hosts.

Fant, who will play tight end at Iowa, picked the Hawkeyes over finalists Nebraska, UCLA, California, and Vanderbilt. He also held scholarship offers from Arizona State, Iowa State, Wyoming, Buffalo, Ohio, South Dakota State, and Liberty.

"As my family and I looked at each school and how Iowa was recruiting me and really pushing me and letting me know that, 'Hey, you're our guy and we have big plans for you,'" Fant said. "Also, just the way they pump tight ends out of their school and into the NFL, that's one of my dreams. It just ended up being the best fit for me at that point."

Making the call to the Iowa coaching staff, Fant told us he spoke with head coach Kirk Ferentz and tight ends coach LeVar Woods as he officially became verbal commitment No. 23 for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2016.

"I talked to Coach Ferentz and Coach Woods," Fant told HawkeyeReport.com. "The guy that had Coach Woods' phone sprinted across the field to tell them and they were all super pumped. It was great."
