Solon linebacker Coal Flansburg was able to get on campus as a recruit for the Iowa-Ohio State game and has spent his youth following the Hawkeyes.

“Oh yeah, it was definitely Iowa," said Flansburg. "We have had season tickets my entire life. I have been to every game since then. It is definitely Iowa.”

Flansburg was thrilled with the eventual outcome of their showdown with the Buckeyes.

“It was cool just to see the facilities and talk to the coaches again," Flansburg said. "It was fun to see them play Ohio State.”

His highlight of his time in Iowa City was the contest.

“It is definitely getting to watch the game," he said. "I watched the game and how Josey (Jewell) played and the other linebackers. That was cool to see.”

Flansburg has continued to hear from the Hawkeye coaches in a wide range of ways.

“It is just letters," said Flansburg. "We are just talking and communicating. It is furthering those relationships.”

A strong showing during the summer is what allowed Flansburg to get onto the radar of Iowa.

“I think since I went to their camp is when I started talking to their coaches," Flansburg said. "They didn’t know about me, but I think I proved myself pretty well. I showed them what I had to offer and they took notice.”

Flansburg continues to pour heavy praise on their program as a whole.

“I really like it," he said. "I really like the atmosphere and all of that. The coaches are really nice. I really like them.”

A walk-on opportunity may be something that Flansburg would struggle to turn down.

“That would be huge to get that," said Flansburg. "Right now, I am just going to keep working and get a little more (attention).”

Flansburg mentioned another in-state school is after him as well.

“It is mostly just Iowa State really as of right now," Flansburg said. "I am hoping for some more. I am getting myself out there more and hoping that coaches will take notice."
