Florida CB commits to Iowa

Josh Turner committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes today.

Florida cornerback Josh Turner has made his college decision. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound Turner announced his verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes today.

"After long consideration I know where I want to be," Turner said in his statement released on Twitter. "I have committed to the University of Iowa."

This summer, Turner had narrowed down his choices to six schools, which were Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, Boston College, South Florida, and Army. Ultimately, it was a June visit to Iowa City and the relationship that he developed with the coaches since then that won it out for the Hawkeyes.

“I just love Coach Ferentz and the whole coaching staff,” said Turner. “They're great people that I know I can trust.”

“The facilities are amazing and they do a wonderful job of developing players,” he continued. “Coach Doyle is the best in the business at what he does, so I know I will be in good hands.”

After the 2016 season, Iowa graduates starting cornerbacks Desmond King and Greg Mabin, so the potential for early playing time was also a selling point for the Hawkeyes.

“The cornerback position will be wide open, so they see me coming in along with the other guys and competing for a spot,” Turner said.

In all, Turner drew more than 20 scholarship offers during the recruiting process. Now, with his decision made, the Florida native looks forward to focusing on his senior season and then the future that awaits him at Iowa.

“It feels great to be locked in and a part of something that has so much potential to be great,” said Turner. “Myself, along with the other guys that are in this class, have the potential to make this something special over in Iowa City.”

Overall, Turner is the 16th commitment for the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Class of 2017.
