The Iowa Hawkeyes have landed their tight end in the Class of 2018. Three-star prospect Anthony Torres gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa coaching staff today during a trip to campus with his family. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Torres announced his decision this evening following the visit.
"After long and careful thought and consideration with my family, mentors, coaches, and friends, I am more than excited to announce that I am committed to the University of Iowa," Torres said in a statement.
Torres, who earned an offer at Iowa's camp in early June, chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Indiana, Cincinnati, Central Florida, Air Force, Ball State, Toledo, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Columbia, Dartmouth, Yale, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana State, and Georgia State.
Overall, Torres is commitment No. 11 for the Iowa coaching staff in the Class of 2018.
Primarily known for his blocking ability, Torres caught 11 passes for 195 yards and scored one touchdown as a junior at Mishawaka Penn High School, helping the team make the Indiana state semifinals in Class 6A and finish with a 12-1 record.
This fall, Torres will be playing his senior year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
