Class of 2019 prospect Cameron Baker received big news Friday with his first scholarship offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Afterwards, we caught up with Baker, who is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound RB/LB from Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, to discuss the opportunity, the latest on his recruiting, and much more.

Q: How did the offer officially come from the Iowa coaches?

BAKER: My dad had called me saying that Coach Morgan would like to speak to me, so I called Coach Morgan.

Q: What did Coach Morgan say when you spoke to him?

BAKER: He said he valued me as a person, he valued my character, and that he saw me as a football player. He wasn't sure what position, but he knew I was a football player.

Q: What were your initial thoughts on the scholarship offer?

BAKER: I was shocked and at a loss of words. I was not expecting that call (Friday) but very honored to have received one.

Q: What prompted the offer following your visit to Iowa last weekend?

BAKER: I honestly have no idea what prompted them.

Q: How do you feel overall about Iowa?

BAKER: I love it there. It's a great program. I love the coaches, the environment, it's a blast whenever I visit.

Q: Do u have any plans to get back to Iowa soon for a visit?

BAKER: No plans soon for Iowa.

Q: They have talked about you coming in as an athlete. Do you have a preference position wise where you end up in college? Is there a side of the ball that you prefer?

BAKER: No sir, I have no preference. I just want to be on the field.

Q: Do you have more experience on either side of the football growing up?

BAKER: I've always played both sides growing up so I'm pretty familiar with either side.

Q: With an offer on the table, when do you plan on making a decision?

BAKER: I plan on making one sometime (during) my senior year after I've considered all potential options.

Q: What other colleges are in the picture outside of Iowa?

BAKER: Iowa State.

Q: Have you heard much from Nebraska at all?

BAKER: I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Q: Do you feel Iowa State is close to offering?

BAKER: I’d like to think so.

Q: Do you have a favorite at this point?

BAKER: I would say Iowa. It is not just because of the offer but I love the coaches, their vision for their players, and the atmosphere at Kinnick is amazing.

Q: What will be the biggest factors in making a final college decision?

BAKER: The coaches and how they connect with players and of course the quality of education. Those are two big factors for me.

Q: Do you have any visits coming up?

BAKER: December 16th, I will be attending the ISU bowl game practice.

As a junior, Baker finished with 196 carries for 1,852 yards and 20 touchdowns on offense and 49 tackles, three TFL, and one interception on defense for Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson High School.
