Hawkeyes offer DT Bryson Williams

Defensive tackle Bryson Williams picked up a new scholarship offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 293-pound Lincoln, Nebraska native received the news during a visit to the University of Iowa with his family over the weekend.

“I was talking to Coach Ferentz with my family,” said Williams. “He told me that I was a great player and they love my character and that's why they wanted to offer me.”

“I was speechless when he first said it and my mom started crying,” he continued. “It was really great.”

Overall, Iowa is offer No. 10 for Williams as the Hawkeyes join Kansas State, Central Florida, Navy, Ohio, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, South Dakota, and South Dakota State on his list.

“I'm very blessed,” Williams said. “I know none of this would happen without the help of my lord and savior. I'm still surprised at the fact I'll get a free college education. It's a great feeling.”

As for the Iowa visit this weekend, Williams arrived on campus early Saturday morning to watch the Hawkeyes at work in spring practice and talked with the coaching staff afterwards.

“I got there about 8:30 this morning to check out the practice,” said Williams. “I got to go to the players’ meeting and then go out to practice, which was really cool because I got to be out on the field to check some things out. I learned a lot while I was there today.”

“After practice, I met with all the coaches,” he continued. “They are all pretty amazing guys from Coach Morgan to Coach Doyle to Coach Ferentz.”

Up next for Williams is a trip to Chicago for the Opening regional on Sunday. After that, the three-star prospect is looking ahead to spring game visits later this month.

“I'll be at the Opening in Chicago tomorrow, but I plan to go to a few spring games like K-State’s and Iowa’s as far as visits go,” Williams said.
