The Iowa Hawkeyes are the latest team to offer four-star junior college offensive lineman Anthony McKinney. The offer came during an unofficial visit to Iowa City on Saturday for the 6-foot-8, 330-pound McKinney, who attends Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.

“I got the chance to look at most of the football facilities and sit down one on one with Coach Polasek and talk offensive line fundamentals,” said McKinney. “Then I met with Coach Doyle and sat down with Kirk and Brian Ferentz and talked for a while.”

“I was blown away with everything they had to offer,” he continued. “I appreciated that they were honest and straightforward the whole visit. I like the program and what they stand for.”

The Hawkeyes do not recruit the junior college ranks very often, but with both starting tackles set to graduate after this year, McKinney could be a good fit for the Hawkeyes.

“They have a need for tackles, but they don't promise you anything,” McKinney said. “You have to work for everything you get. They just expect you to show up, work hard, and give great effort.”

Overall, Iowa is offer No. 17 for McKinney as the Hawkeyes join Oklahoma, Georgia, Oregon, Arizona State, Michigan State, Iowa State, Houston, Illinois, Louisville, West Virginia, Maryland, TCU, Washington State, Syracuse, Memphis, and Illinois State on his list.

A Rockford, IL native, McKinney is on track to graduate from Iowa Western in December, allowing him to transfer to a Division I program next January. Currently, he is in the process of scheduling official visits as he sorts through all of options.

“I'm going to take a couple officials for the schools farther away and I'm saving some for the ones that I really want to go back to again too,” said McKinney.

So far, McKinney has one official visit locked in, which will be to Oklahoma next week on June 2.
