Louisiana quarterback Kyle Wickersham is now hearing from the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are still looking for a quarterback in the Class of 2021 and recently reached out to a new potential target, Kyle Wickersham. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Louisiana native received a phone call from Iowa quarterbacks coach Ken O'Keefe this past week.

"He told me that he really liked what he saw and wants me to call him once a week," said Wickersham.

With the Hawkeyes currently in evaluation mode and the NCAA recruiting dead period extended until at least the end of May, Wickersham is trying to stay patient with the recruiting process right now including the new interest from Iowa.

"They told me to just be patient," Wickersham said. "It’s a weird time with this coronavirus and everything being shut down. They just want to get to know me better as a person."

Meanwhile, Wickersham, whose father Jeff played quarterback at LSU in the early 80's, has started researching the Hawkeyes and looks forward to learning more about the program.

"I know that they produce top level athletes and their quarterbacks are always really good," Wickersham said. "Their school is also very well known for their academics as well, which is really impressive. Their coaches are also very prestigious and have a ton of experience in college and the NFL."

Elsewhere, Wickersham has quite a wide variety of interest, including scholarship offers from Air Force, Cornell, Fordham, Georgetown, Harvard, Nicholls State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee-Martin, and Tusculum, and interest from Kentucky, Arizona State, Memphis, Utah State, Houston, and Purdue, among others.

"Right now, it’s kind of crazy because last year was the first year I’ve ever played QB so a lot of new schools have just been coming into the picture, but Harvard, Princeton, Richmond, Yale, Fordham and Cornell have been talking to me the most," said Wickersham.

As a junior, Wickersham finished the season 133/222 passing (59.9%) for 1,620 yards and 14 touchdowns, and had 194 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground as well.
