With one of the strongest legs in the state, Southeast Polk kicker Luke Williams has become a sought after recruit and it includes a trip to Iowa City.

“I really enjoyed the visit," said Williams. "I’ve been up there before but that was my first game day visit there. It was everything I’d hope it would be. Being on the sidelines was amazing.”

Williams had a chance to see a lot about what the Hawkeyes have to offer overall.

“We started off with breakfast and talked to some of the other recruits," Williams said. "We went on a tour of the facilities, the weight room, the indoor field, the meeting rooms, and then went to Kinnick to tour the field while watching warm-ups. After that, we watched the game.”

There were a few things that Williams felt stood out to him as highlights.

“It was probably touring the weight room and being on the field," he said. "I’ve been on the field before for a camp but being on the field for a game day is a different experience.”

Williams has been on the radar of the Iowa coaches since last winter but it heated up during the summer.

“They started contacting me after I received postseason awards last year," said Williams. "I got a letter or two. Then I went to their camp and I talked to them here. They always seem interested and I’ve been really interested. I got a letter about game day visits.”

There has been a long time that Williams has kept an eye on the Hawkeye program.

“Overall, Iowa is amazing," Williams said. "It is fantastic. It is kind of hard to describe. I’ve always grown up an Iowa fan so when I went there, I had high expectations. I feel like it didn’t disappoint me at all. It was everything I hoped it’d be. They are a great program.”

Williams mentioned that any opportunity in Iowa City may lead him down that path.

“If they offered me a walk-on spot, it’d be hard to turn down," he said. "As of right now, I am keeping my options open and hoping for the best. I am not trying to show my hand before I reveal what it is. If they gave me a preferred walk-on, it would be hard to turn down.”

There are two more trips to see the Hawkeyes play for Williams.

“Yes, I am visiting two more times for North Texas and Illinois games.”

Williams has a number of other schools across the Midwest interested in his skills.

“I am getting a lot of schools in the area," said Williams. "Minnesota State is a big one, Winona State wants me for game day visits, and Wartburg has been emailing me a lot. There are other schools like Simpson College and I am going on a visit to Northwest Missouri State. That is about it.”
