Iowa adds 2022 pitcher

With the book closed on recruiting for the Class of 2021, Coach Heller and his coaching staff have turned their focus to 2022. The Hawkeyes landed their fourth prospect of next year’s class today, as Whalert Catholic Pitcher Aaron Savary announced his commitment via twitter.

Savary rates very well in the Perfect Game ratings, coming in as the #2 right-handed pitcher and #4 overall prospect in the state of Iowa for 2022. He also lands himself at #197 in the country for right-handed pitchers.

Aaron had a fantastic season on the mound for the 3A Eagles and was named to the First Team All-Mississippi Valley Conference team.

Savary was a 9-1 in 11 starts for Whalert, posting a 1.27 ERA over 66 innings pitched. He struck out 96 and walked just 15, while allowing an opponent batting average of .136. He was also a force at the plate, batting .313 with a .421 OBP, while slugging six home runs. Despite, being a 3A team, Whalert faces 4A teams all season, in a conference that includes Cedar Rapids Prairie, Iowa City West and Dubuque Hempstead, among others. The team fell in the 3A State Tournament final vs Marion last Saturday.

Savary had one of the more memorable moments of the State Tournament in Iowa City over the weekend, as his home run vs Cedar Rapids Xavier hit the hawk statue outside of Duane Banks Field.

1B Blake Guerin- Shoreview , Minnesota

Blake is a guy that Iowa fans should be really excited for. Guerin has been skyrocketing in popularity playing with the Minnesota Blizzard travel team and recently made waves for his batting practice session at the Perfect Game National Showcase. Perfect Game rates him as the #1 overall prospect in Minnesota for the class of 2022 and the #12 overall 1B prospect in the country. Coach Heller has a real good one here.

C Reese Moore- Forest City, Iowa

Perfect Game rates Moore as the #1 catching prospect and #3 overall prospect in the state of Iowa for 2022. He also lands at #53 in the country for catching prospects.

RHP Brendan Strenke- Turtle Lake, Wisconsin

Strenke is rated by Perfect Game as the #5 right-handed pitching prospect and #15 overall prospect in the state of Wisconsin for the class of 2022. He is also rated as the #265 overall right-handed pitcher in the country. He is also a solid basketball player for Turtle Lake High School, scoring 40 points in a game last season.
