Morgan headed to Iowa

Texas defensive back Anthony Morgan has been calling Iowa his favorite since April. The Hawkeyes received the only official visit that he took this fall and have remained at the top of his list. Today, Morgan decided not to wait any longer and gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa coaching staff.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Morgan made his announcement this afternoon at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano, which is near his high school, Prestonwood Christian Academy. With hats laid out for each of his three finalists - Iowa, Arizona, and Stanford - the defensive back put on the Hawkeyes hat as he revealed his choice.

"I just prayed about it honestly," Morgan told Rivals.com's John Talman afterwards. "My mom told me to pray about it and that's what I did. I just asked God for guidance and Iowa was there. That's what I went with honestly."

The three-star prospect visited Iowa once in the spring and then returned for a game at Kinnick Stadium in October. According to Morgan, spending time around the team played a key role and relieved any concerns he had about moving away from home for college.

"It was great," Morgan said about his Iowa visit. "Just to see the atmosphere and the coaches and the players. I asked them about it and they love it there. That was obviously a very important thing."

The Hawkeyes project Morgan at safety in college and it is a position that suits him well. At the press conference today, Prestonwood coach Chris Cunningham called his star player the most devastating hitter he has ever been around.

"I'm just aggressive and I try to make plays," said Morgan. "Whenever the ball is up in the air and I see somebody coming across the field, I try to knock them out."

Along with Iowa, Arizona, and Stanford, Morgan drew scholarship offers from Virginia, Northwestern, Indiana, Vanderbilt, New Mexico, and several others during the recruiting process. It was always Iowa though that stayed after him the hardest with lead recruiter Erik Campbell leading the way.

"Iowa and Arizona were the two schools that showed me a lot of love, but Iowa was the one who always showed me the most love," Morgan said.

With his college decision out of the way, Morgan looks forward to preparing for the next level in the months ahead as he gets ready to play for the Hawkeyes.

"If I had to tell the fans one thing, it would be, 'Be ready, because it's going to be exciting.'"
