The Iowa Hawkeyes are the latest team to offer JUCO defensive end Andrew Van Ginkel. A 6-foot-4, 230-pound transfer from South Dakota, Van Ginkel will play at Iowa Western Community College this fall and then head to Division I in 2017 with two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of Rock Valley, IA, Van Ginkel spent two years at South Dakota after graduating high school. As a redshirt freshman, he quickly burst onto the scene, starting all 11 games in 2015 and racking up 56 tackles, 18 TFL, and nine sacks. That type of production earned him first team all-conference honors as well as freshman of the year recognition.

With South Dakota going through a coaching change after the retirement of Joe Glenn, Van Ginkel decided to transfer this off-season, spend a year at Iowa Western, and then try to make the move up to the FBS level.

Right now, all is going according to plan as he currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, West Virginia, and Ohio with more sure to come.
