Ngoumou moving on

Wide receiver Stephane Ngoumou was with the Hawkeye football program last summer until the start of practice when he failed to fully qualify academically. That led him to Milford Academy, a prep school in New York, to take care of his academics and play football waiting to return to Iowa City.

Now those plans are off, at least as far as a return to the University of Iowa campus. The 6-foot-4 wide receiver says that he and the Hawkeye coaches have decided to part ways.

"I guess you could say it was a mutual decision," Ngoumou said on Monday afternoon. "It has been a tough few months for me and being at Milford was really hard. I decided that I wanted to stay on the East Coast, closer to home, and go to school."

Ngoumou, who is originally from Rockville, Maryland, attended Wootton High School as a prep and put up impressive numbers in his senior season, catching 71 passes for over 1,100 yards. He signed with Iowa and was in Iowa City all summer with the team before leaving in early August due to academic issues. This season at Milford Academy he saw limited playing time.

With Iowa out of the picture, Ngoumou says that both Rutgers and Virginia have been showing interest in him and he hopes to set up official visits to both schools in the near future.

"I've been talking to Virginia and Rutgers recently. The Virginia coach is new and he is still setting up his staff, but I have been in touch with both schools about setting up a visit."
