CHICAGO -- Monday through Wednesday this week, Iowa forward Payton Sandfort participated in the NBA Scouting Combine in Chicago. In April, the junior from Waukee announced his intention to enter the NBA Draft process and maintain his final year of eligibility with the Hawkeyes, should he decide to return to the college ranks.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, Sandfort participated in the five-on-five portion of the combine, putting up four points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field and going 0-of-7 from three-point range over two games.

Leading up to the combine, it was starting to seem that Sandfort was a surefire bet to forego his final year of college basketball to head to the NBA. His struggles in the combine this week have once again made his immediate future more uncertain.

Though his less-than-stellar performance this week is and will be a factor in his decision, there are several reasons that Sandfort would be better served returning to Iowa City for one more year under the tutelage of Fran McCaffery.
