Perry walking on at Iowa

Throughout the recruiting process, Urbandale native Travis Perry was waiting to see what Iowa was going to do. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Perry was hoping to land a late scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes, but when it did not happen, he decided to join the Iowa football program anyway.
"UNI offered me a couple days ago, but after sitting down with my family and going over everything, I decided that I'm going take the opportunity to play football at Iowa," said Perry.

The two-star prospect will join the Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on this year. Along with UNI, Perry also had FCS offers from Eastern Illinois and South Dakota, but was determined to football play at the FBS level in college.
"I couldn't pass up an opportunity to play at such a prestigious program like Iowa," Perry said. "I just thought that was my best choice."
Last week, Perry made his official visit to Iowa City where he met several of the players, including some of the current walk-ons, who welcomed him with open arms.
"When I went on my visit, it just felt like home," said Perry. "All the guys treated me like I was already part of the team."
This past season, Perry finished with 60 tackles despite missing several weeks due to a stress fracture in his foot. The Iowa coaches, who project him at outside linebacker in college, never stopped showing interest, which is something that stuck with him in the end.
"The coaches are all great guys," said Perry. "They've been recruiting me all the way through even when I broke my foot, which was huge I thought."
Perry joins Solon kicker Marshall Koehn in Iowa's walk-on class of 2011.
