Recinos picking up interest

With a resume that includes a 56-yard field goal, a 43 yard punt average, and 34 touchbacks on 38 kickoffs, Mason City kicker/punter Miguel Recinos has seen his recruiting really heat up as of late. That includes some serious attention from the coaches at the University of Iowa.

"(Coach Morgan) expressed a desire to bring in a kicker," said Recinos. "He had talked to Nate Kaeding, the former Iowa kicker, about who he'd recommend to bring in as a kicker. He told said me and was very complimentary towards me. Coach Morgan basically said they want to bring me in as a kicker but I could also compete for punting. They would possibly offer me as a preferred walk on."

Recinos likes his chances at making an impact at the Division I level.

"I think it is an attractive possibility," Recinos said. "I could go in there and compete for all three (field goals, kick-offs, and punting). I like my odds to win both of the kicking spots."

An official visit to Iowa City is something Recinos has scheduled at this point.

"It is around February 1st," said Recinos. "We basically have something setup for then. I'll be meeting with Coach Morgan and talking to them about the possibility of playing at Iowa."

Recinos is hoping to make the most of his opportunity to get on campus.

"I'm pretty excited that they invited me down there," he said. "I'll be meeting with all the coaches. I am excited to hear what the special teams coach has to say about the opportunity that I have there."

Iowa is a school high on Recinos but he still wants to learn more.

"I'd definitely be interested in Iowa and have grown up following them," Recinos said. "At this point though, I'd like to see what they offer with a preferred walk-on. I'll take that into account. It'll just depend on what they say and my impressions with meeting the coaches."

Recinos has three others after him as well at this point.

"Minnesota and Iowa State have both talked about it and all that is left is determining the date," he said. "Purdue at this point has said they will get back to me. They are trying to find a scholarship for me now."

A final decision is something that Recinos plans to take his time with.

"I'm not sure. I'll try and decide somewhere earlier in the year before March," Recinos said. "Honestly things could change so we'll see."
