After starring at quarterback at Cedar Rapids Xavier the last couple years, Bryce Schulte will be making a position change and joining the Iowa Hawkeyes as a preferred walk-on this year. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Schulte announced his decision this morning.
“I had other opportunities to potentially walk on at UNI and Iowa State, and I also had an offer from Upper Iowa,” said Schulte. “But I just felt that Iowa was the best fit for me both academically and as an athlete.”
A first team all-state selection at quarterback this past season, Schulte threw for 1,598 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior. With good size and speed, he could project at tight end or linebacker in college.
“I think it'll be good challenge, but I'm looking forward to it,” Schulte said. “I went to Iowa's camp as a tight end, so I got a feel for what it was like and I also played on the defensive side of the ball this year as a rover linebacker, so I'm somewhat familiar with those positions.”
