Small school standout visiting Iowa

If you follow high school football in the state of Iowa, you may have heard of small school standout Nate Meier. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Meier made headlines in October when he broke a state record with 500 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns in a single game. But that was just one step of the journey for the Tabor, IA native this season as he led Fremont-Mills High School to a 13-0 record and a state title in the eight-man division.

Meier finished his senior season with 2,494 yards rushing and 57 touchdowns on offense to go along with 112 tackles, 34 TFL, and 11 sacks on defense where he lined up at linebacker and defensive end. Named the state's eight-man player of the year, he has seen his recruiting finally start to pick up as well recently.

"At this time, he has offers from UNI, South Dakota, and Iowa Western," said Fremont-Mills head coach Jeremy Christiansen. "Iowa is showing a lot of interest and he has an official visit there this weekend. I'm not sure if Iowa will offer, but I would think it is a good sign if they want him to come on an official."

Coaches have told Meier that he could project at running back, fullback, h-back, linebacker, or defensive end in college depending on how big he gets. His coach could see him succeeding in any of those roles because of his athleticism and physical style of play on the field.

"He's a great player," Christiansen said. "We had a good team this year and a great offensive line in front of him, but he was the face of our physical type of play on both sides of the ball."

Christiansen expects Meier to make a decision next week after returning home from his trip to Iowa.
