During the recruiting process, Ihmir Smith-Marsette has made verbal commitments to Rutgers and Minnesota over the past two months, but when it came down to signing day, the New Jersey native is going to ink his National Letter of Intent with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Smith-Marsette announced his new destination this afternoon during a press conference at Weequahic High School.

Listed as a three-star athlete, Smith Marsette could play on either side of the ball in college. The Hawkeyes are currently projecting him to start out at wide receiver, which offensive cooordinator Brian Ferentz went over during his official visit on January 20.

“He told me there’s a big opportunity there," Smith-Marsette told us following the trip. "Coming in as a wide receiver, there’s an opportunity to play right away.”

Overall, Smith-Marsette is commitment No. 22 for Iowa in the Class of 2017.
