Spring Fling Player Evaluations

This past weekend in Iowa City, the Iowa Barnstormers hosted their first Spring Fling, which featured several top AAU teams from the Midwest. Here is a rundown of some of the top prospects that we saw at the event this weekend.

Jarrod Uthoff - Iowa Barnstormers

At this point it appears that the Cedar Rapids native is the top prospect in the state in the Class of 2011 and he might be one of the big risers on the national level in the coming weeks and months. Uthoff has a very nice skill set. He can put it in the floor and handles it very well, shoots it beyond the three point line, and is bouncy around the rim. At 6-8, he has the skills to play on the wing and that will make him very attractive to high major programs.

Ron Patterson - Indiana Elite One

The 6-foot-3 prospect in the Class of 2012 immediately passes the old eyeball test. He certainly doesn't look like a kid who is a sophomore in high school. Patterson can play above the rim and his off the backboard pass/dunk on Saturday turned more than a few heads in the gym. He already has several high major offers with more soon to come.

Josh Oglesby - Iowa Barnstormers

If Uthoff isn't the top player in the state of Iowa in 2011, then Oglesby probably is. The 6-foot-4 guard has a pure stroke from behind the three point line and makes himself very hard to guard on the offensive end by moving without the ball. He has come along very nicely on the defensive end as well, playing with active hands. He's already picking up high major offers and like his teammate, more are on the way.

Quevyn Winters - Milwaukee Spartans

The long and athletic wing from Milwaukee might be close to sealing the deal with a commitment to Baylor. Winters has a terrific outside shot from deep and runs the floor very well. He gets into the passing lanes on defense and when he gets a rebound, he can push the ball effectively with the dribble.

Seth Tuttle - Iowa Barnstormers

He's probably getting overshadowed a bit right now by the high major prospects on his team, but someone will be getting a nice player in the Class of 2011. Tuttle plays with a bit of an edge to his game and isn't afraid to mix it up in the paint. Hard working player who has a surprisingly soft touch beyond the three point line.

Domonique Williams - Milwaukee Spartans

Like his teammate on the Spartans 17's team, Williams is a 6-foot-6 wing player who is long and athletic. Very sound skills, but at times he seems to float in terms of his intensity. Above average athlete who can score in transition and has a nice looking shot from the outside.

Kellen Dunham - Indiana Elite One

The 6-foot-5 wing player in the Class of 2012 won't wow you as an above the rim type player, but all he does is make smart basketball plays all game long. At the end of the game, you come away very impressed. He can shoot it from behind the three point line, uses the dribble off the wing and can pull up to knock down shots. Smart player on the defensive end as well. As he fills out, so too will his number of scholarship offers.
