Spring Fling Rundown

The second annual Barnstormers Spring Fling is the books and it was a memorable event to say the least. From last second heroics, to potential D1 prospects throwing down dunks, to a championship game that was called with more than a half of basketball yet to be played… this was an event to remember.
The 15U division saw a talented Iowa Barnstormers squad used their superior length and size in the paint to control the boards at both ends of the floor as they topped the Wisconsin Shooters 66-57. Kyle Haber, a 6-6 wing from Dubuque (Senior) and Cole Clearman led the way with 16 and 12 points respectively.

In the 16U division, the Barnstormers again faced the Wisconsin Shooters for the championship. However, the results in the contest weren't nearly as close as the Iowa team took control early on and kept a comfortable led throughout the game. Josh Weeber, a 6-5 forward from Dubuque (Senior), led all-scorers with 21 points and the Barnstormers cruised to a 17-point victory.
The grand finale was the Barnstormers versus the Wisconsin Force for the 17U division title. The game featured some top-talent in guard Junior Lomomba, a 6-4 guard from Madison, WI, and Jamar Morris, 6-5 wing from Madison, WI. The Barnstormers countered with Josiah Coleman, a 6-6 wing from Cedar Rapids (Kennedy), Anthony Lindauer, a 6-2 shooting-guard from Moline, IL, and Zach Burnham, a 6-6 power forward from Davenport (Central). This game was a hard hitting heavyweight tilt from the tip. The teams were both assessed two double-technical fouls and there were a series of hard fouls and gamesmanship going on at both ends of the floor. With 3:07 remaining in the first half, the referees called an end to the contest with the Barnstormers leading 20-15.
"It was one of the strangest things I have seen," said Barnstormers coach and tournament director Jamie Johnson. "The game was rough from the beginning, so the refs needed to make more calls to tighten the play up, but instead they let the rough play go and neither team was backing down and the game just got away from the officials. I just don't think they knew what to do. It's unfortunate it had to end that way, but what can you do?"
