2025 three-star forward out of Indianapolis Attucks, Dezmon Briscoe has decommitted from Iowa, as he shared on X Sunday afternoon. He will keep Iowa as an option going forward in his recruitment.
"After careful thought, I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment due to the recent coaching change at the University of Iowa," Briscoe said in a statement. "I’m grateful for the love from the staff and fans. Iowa is still a program I’ll consider moving forward."
The 6'8 forward chose the Hawkeyes after receiving offers from programs including Cincinnati, West Virginia, Xavier, Northern Illinois, Indiana State, Butler and others. Ohio State and Notre Dame also showed interest.
"Their play style fits me," he said last summer. "I play the three and four now, and I think they'd have me do that at Iowa, too. I'd step out, play inside, bring it up the floor, everything. They like the way I pass it, and the fact that I shoot on the outside."
For the prospect that held the Iowa offer for over a year, his desire to play at a place like Iowa goes beyond just the on-court aspect.
"The atmosphere at Iowa is good," he said. "I mean, it's the Big Ten. It would feel great to be a Hawkeye. Coach McCaffery is a great coach, and I mean -- it's Iowa."
Briscoe is the second Iowa pledge to decommit in the 2025 class, following the No. 37 player in the country and four-star wing, Joshua Lewis. Badara Diakite remains the lone player signed with Iowa in the 2025 recruiting class.
