One basketball scholarship filled and one more to go for Fran McCaffery in the Class of 2014. After receiving a verbal commitment from junior college point guard Trey Dickerson earlier this month, McCaffery hopes to get a second one this weekend when Iowa will host junior college power forward Willie Atwood.

The courting process reaches a boil this weekend as Atwood is scheduled to make his official visit to Iowa City starting Friday morning. McCaffery and his staff have made it clear to the 6-foot-8 forward that he is their top remaining priority to finish out the Class of 2014 and they will be putting their best foot forward in that regard this weekend.

Atwood, who is originally from Memphis, has played the last two years at Connors State College in Oklahoma and has generated quite a bit of recruiting interest after earning league MVP honors, averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds per game. With Melsahn Basabe and Zach McCabe completing their college eligibility, Atwood would fill a need on the Iowa roster for a physically mature big man with a scoring punch in the paint.

Also on the docket for Atwood is a trip to Florida State on April 10th. He is also looking at a potential visit to Arkansas and Auburn and Virginia Tech has show renewed interest under new head coaches Bruce Pearl and Buzz Williams. At this time, he has only scheduled visits to Iowa and Florida State, but could take more trips if he sees fit.

One interest aspect to Atwood's recruitment is his close relationship with Dickerson. The two have openly talked about wanting to play together at their next stop and with Dickerson already on board with the Hawkeyes, he could help Iowa's cause with Atwood. Dickerson told us following his commitment to Iowa that he planned on making an unofficial trip to Iowa City when Atwood visited and he is working on making that happen this weekend.
