IOWA CITY -- As he announced on social media Tuesday evening, Northwestern transfer wide receiver Jacob Gill has committed to Iowa out of the portal. Rivals tabbed Gill a two-star transfer out of the portal. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Gill spent the last three seasons with the Wildcats, playing in 28 games and registering 16 catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns. He was most productive between his freshman and sophomore campaigns, where he registered 15 of those receptions for 184 yards and both scores, and posting his first career start in his second year.
He was surpassed on the depth chart last season and only played in four games for the Wildcats.
Gill's decision follows that of former Northwestern teammate and quarterback Brendan Sullivan, who committed to Iowa last week.
Gill is a solid depth addition to the Iowa roster, as the Hawkeyes return just three other non-freshman or redshirt freshman in the receiving corps next season in Kaleb Brown, Kaden Wetjen and Seth Anderson. The remainder of the group remains unproven. Standing at 5'11 and 190 pounds, Gill presumably will play slot receiver along with Brown and running back turned receiver, Terrell Washington.
A three-star prospect and the No. 49 player in the state of North Carolina's 2021 recruiting class, Gill received offers from programs like Louisville, Wake Forest, North Carolina State and others out of high school before picking Northwestern.
