Hawks land Jewell

The Iowa Hawkeyes have added a new in-state commitment from Decorah linebacker Josey Jewell. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Jewell announced the news in a press release from his high school on Sunday night.

"I am very thankful and excited to have the opportunity to become a Hawkeye," Jewell said in the release. "My teammates, teachers and coaches have done a great deal to help me reach this point. I am hopeful that the lessons learned thus far from them will help me contribute as much as I can to the Iowa Football program."

Jewell has been a four-sport standout for Decorah High School in not only football, but basketball, track and baseball.

This past year, Jewell helped lead the Decorah Vikings to the Class 3A state championship in football after a runner-up finish in 2011.

Along the way, all-state honors were earned both seasons while amassing 3,240 yards rushing with 42 touchdowns as a fullback and 190 solo and 120 assisted tackles as a linebacker.

Jewell plans to sign his national letter of intent on February 6, 2013.
