After making a second visit to Iowa over the weekend, kicker Drew Stevens has decided to become a Hawkeye. The 6-foot-1, 173-pound South Carolina native announced his decision today, accepting a preferred walk-on opportunity at Iowa.

Stevens, whose mom grew up in Okoboji, IA, trains with kicking coach Dan Orner, who also coached former Hawkeye kicker Keith Duncan, a North Carolina native, so there were a couple connections to Iowa that helped them win out over similar walk-on opportunities from NC State, South Carolina, and Maryland, among others.

"It's a dream school for me," said Stevens. "It's 1,000 miles from home, but I grew up watching the Hawkeyes with my family."

"It just felt like the best fit," he said. "I wanted to play for a program that wins, works hard, has a legendary coach, and plays in a Power 5 conference.

Stevens is ranked among the top 25 high schools kickers in the country by Kohl's Kicking, which offers the following scouting report:

Stevens recently attended the 2021 UC Challenge and a Spring Showcase. He scored an impressive score of 109 on KO's at the Showcase Event. In July of 2020 Stevens had a KO score of 97.98. His leg has gotten noticeably stronger since last summer. He has made a nice jump athletically and was able to score 13 points on his field goals in May of 2021. Stevens has good natural talent and with continued refinement, he will be ready to compete at the next level!
