Last year Peter Moe made a pretty big decision. With his father, former Hawkeye Jeff Moe, returning to Iowa City to complete his degree, he decided to leave the state of Indiana and finish up his high school basketball career in the state of Iowa.

Thus far, it’s a decision that seems to be working out well for the Class of 2022 prospect.

“I think it’s been a good decision for me,” Moe said. “Coach Bergman at Iowa City West has helped me out a lot and Coach Hank (Huddleson) with Martin Brothers has as well. Playing with both teams has really helped to make me a better player.”

Moe, who stands 6-foot-9 and weighs in at 210 pounds, has become an offensive force since coming to Iowa. In his junior year he averaged over 20 points per game at Iowa City West, including scoring 41 points early in the season.

He attributes some of his success to the increased amount of freedom gets on the floor these days.

“I think my guard skills have improved because I have been handling the ball more and they allow me to shoot it more here too,” Moe said. “I have worked really hard on my shot and I think it’s improved quite a bit.”

The next step for Moe is to get in front of college coaches, which is something he hasn’t been able to do since his game took a significant leap. That means July will be a critical month as college coaches will get to see him play at AAU events.

“I am excited to show coaches how much I improved, having fun, and hopefully impress the college coaches.”

Moe said he recently took a visit to Air Force and he is also getting interest from Belmont, Lipscomb, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and North Dakota. He’s also hearing from the school where his dad was once a star.

“Iowa says they are going to be watching me in July and see how I play. With Coach McCaffery and Coach Taylor’s sons on my high school team I see them often and talk to them a little bit.”

Would Moe like to follow in his father’s footsteps and play at Carver-Hawkeye Arena?

“It’s the Big Ten and playing at the highest level, so I would love to follow my dad and play where he played.”
