The Iowa high school football championships are being held this week and have a number of Iowa Hawkeye connections throughout.

Class 4A - Dowling vs. Iowa City West (Friday, November 18, 7:06 PM)
Player: Oliver Martin, Iowa City West, 2017 (Offer)
Martin has been integral to the Trojans pulling off three straight upsets to get to the Class 4A state championship. His playmaking abilities have been well documented over the years but he has lived up to the hype as a senior. At last count, he has caught 83-passes for 1,245 yards and 14-touchdowns. Martin has also added two interceptions defensively. He will be going up against a Dowling defense that is giving up on average just over ten points per game.
Player: John Waggoner, Dowling Catholic, 2018 (Offer)
Waggoner was the first player in-state player in the Class of 2018 to land offers from both Iowa and Iowa State earlier in the fall. This 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end has stepped up his game at the varsity level this fall with twelve-tackles for loss and a team leading eight-sacks. His ability to get pressure into the backfield of opponents has helped the Maroons all fall.
Player: Zach Ross, Dowling Catholic, 2018
Ross earned an offer from Iowa State during the summer but remains on the radar of the Hawkeye coaches. His success up front has allowed two running backs at Dowling Catholic to go over the 1,000-yard mark. Look for his name to be one to follow with the junior day season around the corner shortly.

Class 3A - Webster City vs. Pella (Thursday, November 17, 7:06 PM)
Player: Cooper Lawson, Webster City, 2018
Lawson has done his damage in the trenches for Webster City on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he has helped open holes for a spinner-back offense that has seen three players combine to go over the 3,500-rushing mark. On the season defensively, Lawson has totaled 29 tackles, seven stops for loss, and three sacks as a junior.
Nick Finney, Pella, 2017
Finney may not be on the radar of the Iowa Hawkeye coaches but his giant senior season will only help him garner attention from colleges. After playing behind current Iowa grayshirt Noah Clayberg, Finney has thrown for nearly 2,500 yards while also leading the Dutch with over 1,100 yards on the ground. He has also picked off three passes defensively and could continue the recent pipeline from Pella to Iowa City.

Class 2A - Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley vs. Union (Friday, November 18, 2:06 PM)
Brock Hadachek, Union, 2017
Hadachek was on the radar of the Iowa Hawkeyes early on in the recruiting process and may be a prospect that they are following but he currently is committed to Northern Iowa. At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, this linebacker has a great frame that will translate well to the college level. Hadachek is tops on the Knights with 69-tackles but also has racked up eleven stops for loss and three sacks. In our last interview with him, he declined to mention the programs that are still recruiting him. Hadachek and his teammates sent home Tristan Wirfs and Mount Vernon in the semifinals.

Class 1A - Iowa City Regina vs. Western Christian (Friday, November 18, 11:06 AM)
Jared Brinkman, Iowa City Regina, 2017Like Hadachek, Brinkman has committed to Northern Iowa but was able to take a visit to Iowa City earlier in the fall. Time will tell if that actually means anything or not but this bigman has been dominant up front. Brinkman is leading the Regals in tackles with 64-stops but also has five sacks as well. There are few high school athletes who can disrupt a game defensively as much as Brinkman.
