Ihmir Smith-Marsette moves to Iowa City on June 24.

With playing time available at wide receiver, incoming freshman Ihmir Smith-Marsette is hoping to make the most of his opportunity at Iowa this year. We caught up with the 6-foot-0, 170-pound Smith-Marsette, who plans to wear #6 for the Hawkeyes, to talk about making the transition to college, his goals for the upcoming season, and more.

Q: When do you move to Iowa City this summer?

SMITH-MARSETTE: I make the move to Iowa City June 24th.

Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?

SMITH-MARSETTE: Everyone pushing each other to new limits and working hard.

Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?

SMITH-MARSETTE: My goal is to come in and play right away. The only way I see myself redshirting is if my body isn't physically ready, but I know I'll be ready.

Q: What was it like visiting spring practice last month now that you are so close to being there and what did you see from the new look offense?

SMITH-MARSETTE: It's great visiting and getting a feel for my new teammates and building relationships. I saw that we are trying to throw the ball as often as we can and I like that.

Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?

SMITH-MARSETTE: It will mean everything to me coming out of that tunnel knowing that it's a fresh chapter in my life and I'm ready to make an impact at the next level.

Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?

SMITH-MARSETTE: I loved how Iowa kept it real with me about everything, telling me that nothing is given it's all earned.

Q: Lastly, can you tell us a little bit about track season this year? What are some of your best times?

SMITH-MARSETTE: Track has been a roller coaster ride for me this year because our track coaches moved on to another school, but so far I've ran 10.6 in the 100, 22.8 in the 200, and 14.1 in the 110 hurdles.

A three-star prospect, Smith-Marsette chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Minnesota, Rutgers, and Boston College in February.

As a senior, Smith-Marsette had 31 catches for 741 yards and a total of 1,241 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns for Weequahic High School.
