After carefully considering his options, Kordell Stillmunkes decided that a chance to play in the Big Ten was just too good to pass up. Tonight, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Wisconsin native made the call to Iowa assistant coach Tim Polasek and accepted a walk-on opportunity with the Hawkeyes.
"For my entire life, my dream has been to play in the Big Ten and I can't really pass the chance at getting the opportunity to live out my dream," said Stillmunkes. "It feels amazing."
A versatile prospect, Stillmunkes played all over the field in high school at Cuba City, lining up mostly at running back, wide receiver, and defensive back. As a junior, he finished the season with 1,555 yards rushing and 240 yards receiving with 26 touchdowns on offense and added 83 tackles, 9 TFL, and an interception on defense. This year, he was well on his way to duplicating those numbers before a broken foot ended his senior season in week four.
Stillmunkes, who was also considering Division II offers from Bemidji State and Minnesota-Duluth, first popped up on Iowa's radar when he ran a 4.41 forty at their camp in June, and the Hawkeyes have been in close contact ever since.
"My heart has been at Iowa for a long time," Stillmunkes said.
