"Thank you, University of Iowa for giving me the opportunity to play here and believing in me," he said in the statement he released on Twitter. "With that being said, I will be putting my name in the portal to weigh my options with immediate eligibility at any level. I will always be a Hawkeye."

The 6'2", 173-pound redshirt-freshman made the decision after spending just one season in Iowa City, where he red-shirted. A product of Rock Island, Illinois, Nimmers joined the program after averaging 23.9 points per game as a senior.

He received just one scholarship offer out of high school, coming from Eastern Illinois. He was also looked at by programs like Northern Iowa, Creighton, Iowa State, Marquette, Illinois and others.

Following his decision, Carter Kingsbury and Luc Laketa are the lone walk-ons remaining on Iowa's roster.
