A couple days after returning home from his official visit to Iowa City, wide receiver Calvin Lockett made up his mind. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Florida native decided that it was time to end the recruiting process and gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday.

"Iowa has been the team that has been on me ever since they offered," Lockett told HawkeyeReport.com. "After doing my research and having a great visit, my family and I like it will be the best fit for me. The people really made me feel welcomed and I believe it's a place where I can fit in."

At Largo High School, Lockett is coached by former Hawkeye Marcus Paschal, who was a four-year letterwinner at Iowa and earned second team All Big Ten honors at safety in 2006. Having played in the Big Ten and then the NFL, Paschal has no doubt that Lockett can be an impact player in college for the Hawkeyes.

"Calvin Lockett is a big play waiting to happen," said Paschal. "After watching Calvin on Fridays and Ihmir Smith-Marsette on Saturdays this entire season, they have a lot of the same attributes except Lockett is taller. Once he gets into a college weight room, the sky is the limit for Calvin and he also has a 3.5 GPA."

For Lockett, getting a chance to follow in his coach's footsteps and play in the Big Ten at the University of Iowa is a dream come true.

"Coach Paschal has been a great man to me and has helped me a lot throughout this process," Lockett said. "To follow in his footsteps is truly a blessing and I can't thank him enough."
