In the wake of potentially losing backup kicker and punter Aaron Blom due to the ongoing sports gambling investigation -- per his Twitter account -- Iowa football has added a walk-on punter, Ty Nissen.

Nissen, a product of Carroll, Iowa, spent the first two years of his college career at Iowa Western Community College punting for the Reivers. He'll come in as the backup to starting punter and All-American, Tory Taylor.

In his freshman season punting for the Reivers, Nissen averaged 35.1 yards per punt on 31 attempts over 11 games. His long for the season was 82 yards and he placed 19 of his punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

As a sophomore, he punted the ball 64 times for an average of 36.7 yards per punt. His long was 70 yards and placed 38 punts inside the opponents' 20. He earned ICCAC All-Conference honors that season as well, as he led the country in punts inside the 20 with 33 when the honor was given.

In 2022, Nissen won a JUCO National Championship.

He committed to playing at IWCC during his senior year at Carroll High after a visit to Council Bluffs. According to a local interview he also received interest from Northern Iowa, Division II Northwest Missouri State and NAIA Morningside out of high school. He stated in the same interview that his goal following his time at Iowa Western was to reach the Division I level.

During his tenure at IWCC, he attended Iowa's prospect camp in June last summer, getting in front of special teams coordinator LeVar Woods. Following his graduation from IWCC he visited Division II Northwest Missouri State in June, but didn't commit.

With the graduation of Taylor after this season, Nissen will also have an opportunity to compete for the starting punter position in 2024.
