The Iowa Hawkeyes have landed a verbal commitment from four-star defensive back Julius Brents. The 6-foot-2, 179-pound Brents, who attends Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, announced his decision Friday morning, citing a strong relationship with the Iowa coaching staff among the primary factors.

“One of my main aspects with all of the colleges was my relationship with the coaching staff and my role,” Brents told HawkeyeReport.com. “Over time, since my sophomore year, I have grown a great relationship with the staff at Iowa and I feel they can develop me into the student-athlete that I want to be.”

“I really like Coach Parker, who is a great DB coach and has a history of putting guys in the league, and also Coach Ferentz, who I have built a great relationship over time.”

A four-star prospect ranked No. 213 in the current Rivals250, Brents had narrowed his choices down to Iowa, Michigan State, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Indiana, and Cincinnati this summer. With great size and athleticism, he brings a lot of versatility to the Hawkeye secondary with the ability to play cornerback or safety in college.

“My versatility is what I feel sets me apart from others,” said Brents. “You can plug me in wherever is necessary and I will make it happen.”

As Brents continues to work his way back from a knee injury that has kept him out of the lineup the first two weeks of the season at Warren Central, he is glad to have the weight of his college decision off his shoulders today.

“It feels great,” Brents said. “It’s definitely a dream come true to commit and now that the day is here it's amazing.”

Overall, Brents is commitment No. 13 for the Iowa coaching staff in the Class of 2018 and the fourth from the state of Indiana as he joins Tyrone Tracy Jr. from Decatur Central, Anthony Torres from Mishawaka Penn, and D.J. Johnson from Indianapolis North Central.
