After undergoing elbow surgery forced him to miss wrestling season this year, North Fayette Valley lineman Ethan Lape is back on the field this summer. This past weekend, the 6-foot-0, 275-pound Lape was in Iowa City to attend the Hawkeye Tailgater and compete at Iowa's one-day camp on Sunday. We caught up with him afterwards to talk about the camp, the latest on his recruiting, and much more.

Q: Overall how was your visit at Iowa?

LAPE: It was amazing. I love it down in Iowa City.

Q: What was your schedule during the course of the weekend?

LAPE: We got there on Friday and met in the press box. (We) talked to everyone then went to Buffalo Wild Wings and then after that went on tour at Old Capitol. The recruits went with current players and went downtown. We just listened to music and curfew was 11. The next day we had breakfast and talked with some teachers. Then we went on a tour of the facility, listened to Doyle talk, had a campus tour, saw the locker room of Kinnick, and then back to the facility to eat.

Q: What was your favorite part of the trip?

LAPE: Honestly just being there and talking with all the other recruits.

Q: What were the coaches saying about you as a recruit and where you stand with them

LAPE: We get along really good and we just joke with each other but they were nervous because I went to camp today and it's first thing I've done with my elbow. It went good and I just got to keep working harder and hopefully it takes me somewhere.

Q: How do you feel you performed at the camp and what was the feedback from the coaches?

LAPE: I think I did pretty good and they just complimented me on everything.

Q: How is the elbow feeling?

LAPE: Really good. I am about where I was before everything happened.

Q: What are you trying to improve on the most this off-season?

LAPE: Hand work and bringing my legs into the blocks.

Q: What schools would you say are recruiting you overall?

LAPE: Iowa, Iowa State, Northwest Missouri State, Northern Illinois, Drake, and UNI are schools that I have talked to.

Q: Are you going to do any more camps?

LAPE: (There is) nothing planned as of now but it's a possibility.

Q: How do you feel your high school team will do this season?

LAPE: We should be good. (We have) seven/eight returning starters on offense and defense.

Q: Do you have any upcoming plans for visits?

LAPE: I'm suppose to go down Northwest Missouri State sometime and UNI but they aren't scheduled yet.
