Waukee offensive lineman Kyle Sorensen will get an opportunity to live his dream next fall by suiting up for the Iowa Hawkeyes after he accepted a walk-on opportunity on Sunday. Afterwards, we caught up with the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Sorensen to talk about his decision and much more.

Q: Why did you end up picking Iowa?

SORENSEN: Because of the opportunity to play Big Ten football for my dream school. And because of the history they have had with walk-ons.

Q: How much did it being your dream school factor into your final decision?

SORENSEN: Quite a bit. Every kid who plays football in Iowa grows up dreaming of putting on the Hawkeye jersey and running onto the field in Kinnick. Making that dream a reality is something I wanted to do.

Q: What other schools were seriously considered?

SORENSEN: UNI.Q: How was your official visit overall?

SORENSEN: It was awesome. Great to get around the program and the guys more.

Q: What was your favorite part of the trip?

SORENSEN: The position meeting where we went through film.

Q: What stood out about those meetings most?

SORENSEN: Getting to know the run game and knowing how similar a lot of it was to what I did in high school.

Q: How much did the coaches at Iowa factor into your decision?

SORENSEN: I love the way Coach Polasek coaches, and how a lot of coaches have an o-line background. So they played a factor in the decision.

Q: Do they see you at tackle or guard in college?

SORENSEN: Tackle.

Q: What did you learn about Iowa on your official visit?

SORENSEN: (I learned) about the history of the program and getting to know players who also walked-on and found success.

Q: What are your plans now to get ready for the college level?

SORENSEN: Get ready by hitting the weight room a lot. I still have track and baseball seasons also.
