Growing up just down the road from Iowa City, Levi Duwa has been dreaming of playing for the Hawkeyes since he was a little kid. Now, the 6-foot-3, 260-pound Duwa is going to live that dream as he reports to Iowa on June 11th to begin his college career. We caught up with him this week to talk about the opportunity in front of him and more.

Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City this summer?

DUWA: I think I am moving up there on June 11th.

Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?

DUWA: I think it’s just going to be a good way for me to see where I stand. It's going to be good to have a lot of guys that will push me and I'm looking forward to seeing the gains that I will make throughout the summer.

Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?

DUWA: My freshman year, I am kind of looking to redshirt to get that extra year, but I still have a lot of stuff learn and some size to put on, so by the end of the summer we should know where I'm really at.

Q: What was it like visiting spring practice last month now that you are so close to being there?

DUWA: Being at the spring game last month was cool knowing that it is going to be me in a short amount of time.

Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?

DUWA: Every time I would go to a game the past couple of years, when the team would come out of the tunnel, I would just get chills. Knowing now that’s going to be me soon is a crazy feeling.

Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?

DUWA: What made me decide on Iowa was that it gave me a chance to chase my dreams. Growing up in Iowa and so close to Iowa City, the black and gold has been a part of me since I was little. I felt like it was the best fit for me and all of the coaches there are great. I can't wait to be coached by Coach Morgan.

Q: Have you found out what number you will be wearing in college and what is your current height and weight?

DUWA: I will be wearing #67 and right now I am about 6'3", 260 pounds.

Q: Have you heard any final word on whether you will start out at defensive end or defensive tackle?

DUWA: I was told DE.

Q: Looking ahead to state track, what kind of numbers are you hoping to hit there?

DUWA: Hopefully 175’ in the discus and 62’ in the shot.

A three-star prospect, Duwa committed to Iowa on April 24, 2016, choosing the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Minnesota and Eastern Michigan.

As a senior, Duwa's season was cut short due to foot surgery, but he still managed to collect 39 tackles, 10 TFL, and 3.5 sacks in about 5 games for Mid-Prairie High School.
